Twisted Path Chai

  • Our distillery was founded by Brian and Laura. Laura has always been a chai fan, and has her own chai recipe that she makes from scratch on the stove. A number of years ago, Brian decided to make her chai into a liqueur for her as a gift. He tried steeping it in alcohol - it was ok, but not great. He tried steeping it in alcohol, then re-distilling it, like the way you make gin - that was even less good. Then he realized, the way to make chai taste the way it should, is make it the way you’re supposed to make it - steep it in hot water. So he tried steeping a really strong batch of chai, with Laura’s recipe, then using that tea to dilute high-proof spirits down to 80 proof. And Twisted Path Chai was born.

  • We make chai the way it should be made. We measure out black tea, and spices into big tea bags, and steep them in hot water. We then dissolve organic evaporated cane juice into the tea. Finally, we use that sweet, brewed tea, to dilute high-proof alcohol down to 80 proof. Twisted Path Chai is literally real, brewed organic chai, but at 40% alcohol.

Twisted Bloody Vodka

Twisted Bloody Vodka is a new way to make a Bloody Mary - it's backwards.

It's vodka with all of the herbs, spices, salt and vinegar already in it, you just add it to PLAIN tomato juice to make a fantastic bloody.

It’s non-perishable, at room temp, even if it’s been opened.

It tastes better than tomato-based mixes, because we infuse real herbs and spices - no flavorings, extracts, or preservatives.

Simply mix one part Twisted Bloody Vodka with three parts plain tomato juice and enjoy - it’s that easy!

  • We wanted to serve made-from-scratch bloodies in the tasting room, but realized the normal way to make a bloody mix (in tomato juice) meant that we’d be throwing out unused mix, along with all the herbs and spices, every week. So in true Twisted Path fashion, we re-thought it. Why should we put all the herbs, spices, salt and vinegar in the tomato juice? The tomato juice is the only perishable part of the bloody? Why not put all that stuff in the vodka? That way it doesn’t spoil, without using any preservatives, or refrigeration. Once we got to making it happen, we also realized that in the vodka, we can infuse real herbs and spices, instead of the flavorings and extracts used in store-bought tomato-based mixes. The end result is that it tastes better than other bloody mixes, and it’s non-perishable. We just open up plain tomato juice as needed, and mix it with bloody vodka! It’s an easier, better, bloody.

  • Twisted Bloody Vodka begins as 190 proof vodka. We infuse the vodka with about a dozen herbs and spices, then dilute that infusion down to bottling proof (80 proof) using a brine we make of water, salt, and vinegar.

Twisted Path Gin

Our gin presents like a London Dry style gin. When you smell it, you’ll get nothing but juniper (which is what makes gin gin after all). But when you sip it, you’ll find it much less sharp than a traditional London Dry style. Its a flavorful, but round and soft gin, rather than sharp and prickly. It drinks like a new American style gin, while being true to traditional gin roots. A truly unique combination that works well in traditional gin cocktails and some cocktails you wouldn’t ordinarily try with gin.

  • We developed our gin recipe starting at square one. We distilled a batch of just juniper berries (which are what makes gin, gin). We then separately distilled every botanical and spice we could find, on a little glass still. Everything we’d heard of being in gin, and lots and lots of things we hadn’t. We built up a “flavor library” of distilled botanicals. Every day, for about a year-and-a-half, we’d measure out a bunch of small glasses of juniper spirit, then dropper different combinations and quantities of botanicals into each one. We were tasting dozens of gin recipes every day. Ultimately, we didn’t focus-group our recipe. That’s how get get the most people to be ok with it. We wanted a few people to LOVE it, not for everyone to like it. So we settled on the recipe that we LOVED more than any gin we’d ever had. It turns out a lot of people agree! Our gin has developed a pretty devoted fan base!

  • Our method of distilling gin is a very traditional one. It turns out, that’s what works best!

    We steep the botanicals for our recipe in high-proof spirits, and re-distill it. It’s that simple.
